FAQ FOR KIDS CLIMBING

CAN KIDS CLIMB AT THE HANGAR?

YES!!! Kids over 5 can attend any of our public hours. For safety, we have a specific adult-to-child ratio as follows:

Age 5-6:  1:1 Parent / Guardian provide constant supervision within arms reach at all times.

Age 7-9:  1:2 Parent/Guardian stays close to both kids at all times.

Age 9-11:  1:4 Parent/Guardian stays nearby with kids in eyeline.

Age 12-15:  1:4 Parent / Guardian must be present and available in the facility.

Note for under 5’s; parent and tot is the only appropriate drop-in time available.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO CLIMB UNATTENDED?

Climbers under the age of sixteen need to be accompanied by someone who is over the age of 19.

Climbers aged 16-19 can climb unattended, with a parent’s permission.

CAN ANYONE OTHER THAN A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN SIGN A WAIVER?

No. To avoid inconvenience go online to our website and fill out the waiver.

WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING?

Appropriate active clothing is recommended; no skirts or dresses. Climbing shoes are available to rent, or clean indoor soft shoes can be worn.

IS IT SAFE TO CLIMB WITHOUT ROPES?

Bouldering is a form of climbing that doesn’t use rope or harnesses.  It’s well suited to children.  Similar to a playground or a gymnastic mat, The Hangar has over a foot of thick foam flooring that allows a climber to climb and fall with a reduced risk to the climber.  All children are taught how to fall safely and are supervised while climbing (by a parent or in the case of a class, an instructor) Effective spotting techniques may be used with timid or unsure climbers. The Hangar does our best to reduce risk to climbers and instructors, however, bouldering does entail inherent risks.
